One of the biggest questions we get from brides is “how can we personalize our wedding to make it truly about us?” The thing to remember is that as long as you stay true to the personal style of your relationship, you’ll enjoy this planning process and find yourselves excited about all the little choices you’ll have to make to create a picture-perfect day. That’s our belief, anyway!
To get your wheels turning, we decided we’d share a few of our favorite ways to help you put your own unique stamp on your wedding and learn how to personalize your wedding.
1.Food: Where can you find you and your fiancé on date night? Are you hitting up the newest hotspot in town, cuddling up on the couch to a good home-cooked meal or keeping it casual by grabbing tacos from a food truck? Whichever it is, bring it to your reception and give your friends and family a front row view to your love of food! The food you serve should be something that reminds guests of you as couple. If your venue or caterers’ menu is limited, get creative by incorporating a signature drink. This will really spice up the night and give guests an inside look at the flavors and style you both enjoy.
2. Traditions: Not really into the bouquet or garter toss? Try an alternative! If your groom comes from a Celtic heritage, try incorporating one of their traditions. Other ideas would be to involve your loved ones by having them play a song, read a poem or present an artwork. All in all, you get to make these decisions, so if one tradition doesn’t really flow with your relationship style then swap it out and get imaginative!
3. Music: Everything from choosing your first dance to deciding whether or not you’ll have a live band or a DJ is a huge part of your wedding celebration. Choose a meaningful processional song to walk down the aisle to. You don’t need to stick to tradition here. You should also choose a band or DJ that really understands your taste in music and will play things that you both love. Make a detailed play list of the must-haves and absolutely-not’s!
4. Honor Someone: Have you or your groom recently experienced the loss of a loved one? Share something about them, like their favorite cocktail, family-famous dessert or even a special dance they loved to do. Really think back on what they enjoyed and try to incorporate it into your big day.
5. Favors: Do both enjoy a specific sports team? Share the same hobby? Theme your favors around this concept to truly give your guests a glimpse into the things important to you!
The idea of personalizing your wedding is so guests can walk into your ceremony and reception venues with the immediate response of, “Oh this is so them!” Of course you want your family and friends to enjoy themselves and have nice things to look at, however the whole idea of weddings is having two people committing their lives to one another. Therefore, guests should be able to see you both in all of the details!
